The eight point Maltese Cross is the International symbol of willingness to make great sacrifices in order to protect others. It is a badge of courage and honor whose story is centuries old.
In 1530, the island of Malta was given to the Knights of St. John and the Knights of Crusaders for their heroic efforts. The symbol on their flag, the eight pointed cross, became known as the "Maltese Cross".
