Suffering from poor performance and reduced fuel economy resulting from oversized tires?

A Nitro gear change will help get that performance and economy back!

If you've fitted larger tires to your vehicle then you are likely experiencing a loss in performance, fuel economy, and more constant transmission gear “hunting" - This is because the larger tires reduce your engine's RPMs below the optimal power band. Re-gearing the differentials in your vehicle is the only way to get your vehicle back into its optimal operating RPM range, thus improving performance and reducing strain on your vehicle's drivetrain. This is especially important for today's vehicles as they feature tall factory gearing and overdrive transmissions which are less tolerant to increase in tire size or the weight of added accessories.

It's a common misconception that gear changes are reserved only to hardcore off-roaders or trucks with huge tires. However, re-gearing is one of the single most beneficial modifications you can make to keep the performance, economy, and durability of your daily-driven 4x4. This is a mod for anyone with larger tires, increased weight, or for increased performance on stock vehicles for towing or increased acceleration.

Nitro Gear Package for 07-21 Tundra is one of Nitro’s biggest sellers. Why? Because these trucks need regeared. The Tundra has a very tall overdrive in 5th AND 6th gear to turn low RPMS. If you are running 33” or larger tires, the 6th gear becomes near useless and all that great horsepower the 5.7L makes can be wasted. This also causes constant shifting, poor economy, and poor acceleration. By regearing you can bring the motor back to the RPM it was intended to run. This will improve Economy, Performance, and shifting. This is one of the most important modifications you can make after installing larger tires on your late model Tundra. This is the only way to properly compensate for the increase in tire diameter.

  • 4.88 Most popular for 33-35” tires (4.88 & 35” tires, ~1750 RPM @ 60 MPH, ~2000 RPM @ 70 MPH)
  • 5.29 Most popular for 35+” tires (5.29 & 37” tires, ~1775 RPM @ 60 MPH, ~2100 RPM @ 70 MPH)

As for traction, none of the 07+ Tundras come with an LSD (Posi), The factory “Electronic LSD” is just traction control, and is more “P.O.S.” than “POSI”. All tundras can benefit from the increased traction that an aftermarket LSD or Locker will provide. Another benefit is strength. Gear change and/or Posi/Locker install does not cause issues with the factory electronics. The Tundra uses a huge 10.5” diff that is much larger than any other ½ ton pickup produced. The problem is the factory Standard Open (non-posi) carrier is very weak by design, and has already failed in many stock pickups, this is all the more reason to add An Auburn Pro LSD or an ARB Air Locker to the rear.
